Question of the Week
6 July 2008
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Come to, all you who labor and are
burdened and I will give you rest.

- Matthew 11:28

Today's Readings

Sunday Scripture Readings and Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30

Reflection:  There seems to be a paradox in the Lord's word.  His yoke, His burden was the cross and yet He calls It easy and light.  How does the heavy burden of the cross and suffering become easy and light?  The transformation seems to happen in the 'not-so-simple' act of surrender to Him, the giving over of our troubles and burdens to Him, that we cannot possible carry by ourselves, requesting that we need His help.

Reflective Question:  When I am in trouble, burdened and suffering, do I release control and turn it over to the Lord?

Faith Response:   This week I will be childlike and surrender my burdens over to the Lord and lovingly discover the rest Jesus promises me.
