The Candidate
- Must be at least a freshman (9th grade) in high
school
- Must complete two full years of preparation sessions
(May participate in Year II if he/she has previously completed a
full year at another parish.)
The Role of the Parents
The Church shares with the parents the
responsibility of passing on their beliefs and traditions.
The parents' privileges and responsibilities are:
- To maintain a Christian environment in the home by
setting a good. Example: pray with your son/daughter to
build an atmosphere of trust and understanding
- To share and reflect with your son or daughter your own
values and beliefs of your faith
- To discuss with your son or daughter the Session Faith
themes to help renew and deepen your own faith
- To regularly attend and actively participate in Mass
with your son or daughter
- To support and participate with your son or daughter
in the service projects they choose.
A home is the place where faith can
best be nourished.
The Role of the Sponsor
The Confirmation Sponsor has a unique and important role
in the Confirmation Process. He/she is a spiritual
"director" and confident. He/she helps the Candidate
in the unfolding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The Sponsor is someone whose life is a powerful witness to
the Good News of Jesus. It is the sponsor who
presents the Candidate to the Church and testifies to
his/her commitment. The Sponsor is highly encouraged
to attend sessions with the Candidate, takes part in special
Liturgies and spends quality one-on-one time with the
Candidate. The Sponsor is called to be a friend,
source of information, guide, and participant.
Faith-Sessions Themes
Each Session will strive to enlighten your son/daughter
to a deeper understanding of his/her faith. Your son
or daughter will have the opportunity to interact with other
teens and adult/peer leaders and share with them their
thoughts. The sessions are not meant to be times of
memorization, but rather opportunities to search, question
and find answers - a time to come to a conclusion of what
his/her unique beliefs and values are. The Session
themes will include topics on the Bible, Jesus as a friend
and companion, prayer, morality, our Catholic identity, the
Holy Spirit and the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and you will renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have
taught the hearts of your faithful,
in the same Spirit
help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen
